Christianity and the Images of Science
Published in Paperback by Smyth & Helwys Pub (August, 1998)
Average review score:

Insightful, elegant, rivetingA fascinating, riveting account by a first rate scientist and mathematician dealing with the interstices between religion and science. While the author assumes a working knowledge of both the bible and some mathematical concepts, there is much here for the general reader. Indeed, at time this book reads like a detective novel, such is the skill of Professor Henry's writing. Highly recommended.

Chronicles of the Revolution 1397-1400: The Reign of Richard II (Manchester Medieval Sources Series)
Published in Hardcover by Manchester Univ Pr (June, 1993)
Average review score:

Excellent collection of sources for an exciting period. This will be a five star book for those willing to read original medieval documents in translation.
Otherwise, steer clear.
This is a very well put together collection of documents and chronicles illustrating the ins and outs of royal politics surrounding the deposition of Richard II of England. An amazing amount of drama and personality emerges from the material assembled by Chris Given-Wilson, a leading scholar of Late Medieval England. Look up other books in this series.

a witty, lovable children's tail (lol)...this simple tale of adventure carried out on four feet. The charismatic Cinnabar still holds his charm, and he leads the reader through his many adventures and astounds with his crafty and quick wits. Throughout the story the values of family values and friendship are explicit- this is a must read for any child, especially those who have a fondness for all things living.

Civic Literacy: How Informed Citizens Make Democracy Work (Civil Society Series)
Published in Paperback by University Press of New England (February, 2002)
Average review score:

Why civic literacy is a key to improving our democracy.I think this well-written and engaging book is a major contribution to our understanding of the disturbing and continuing decline in political participation in the world's industrial democracies. A key factor explaining that trend, Milner argues, is the decline in civic literacy - the knowledge and skills individuals need to make sense of their political world and to act as competent citizens. Milner proposes his civic literacy theory as a superior alternative to the social capital theory advanced by Robert Putnam and others. If social capital does not translate into higher levels of civic literacy, Milner contends, it will not motivate and empower citizens to participate in politics. Civic literacy is key. To test his theory, Milner draws upon extensive political research on the U.S., Canada, western Europe, Australia and New Zealand. He measures and compares levels of national civic literacy. He demonstrates the positive linkage between civic literacy and various forms of political participation (including voting). He documents the increasingly negative impact of TV and other media on the quality of civic education. He also shows how political institutions (particularly party systems and electoral rules) can promote or retard the development of civic literacy. He concludes his fine book by exploring the direct and indirect effects of civic literacy on economic performance and social justice in many nations. As a political scientist and an educator, I was particularly inspired by Milner's call for educational and electoral reforms as a means to promote civic literacy, mobilize participation, and improve our democracy.

Walden Woods...True Nature Worth Preserving!Aho! Hello-Cherokee Language
These books and literature are just the kind that should be mandatory in educational classrooms. They seem second to a bible. The writer is very direct and strong spirited. As well as many of the other titles that I have explored, I have a very good bookshelf collection that I would suggest to any person in hopes of expanding their horizon... In fact, I have made a habit of giving this literature as gifts.
One especially excellent book about the preserving of Walden Pond and Woods, included amazing writings from Musical Artist Don Henley {The Eagles}. He states the strength of his thoughts and feelings about his beliefs of preserving nature and the making goodness out of society.
For a writer {Ralph Waldo Emerson}so far back in years, he seems to have been "born before his time", knowing so much about what we need.
Most enchanting....
"Peace is not only a season, it is also a way of life."

The Classical Greek Reader (Henry Holt Reference Book)
Published in Hardcover by Henry Holt & Company, Inc. (January, 1997)
Average review score:

Just the Thing to Pique Your Interest in the ClassicsI have long been interested in classical Greek and Roman civilization, and have spent hours thumbing through the wonderful Loeb Classics library editions jotting down random bits of wisdom or hilarious observations. Before I found Atchity and McKenna's book, however, I never quite knew how to tie it all together. The book's style is far more interesting than an encycolpedia's style, but the volume of information is perfect for novices. The chapters consist of chronological excerpts from a wide variety of Greek academics. Whether your interest is history, literature, philosophy, art, math, science, or an amalgam of any or all of these, you will find something fascinating to read here. Parents of high school and college students should think about giving this book as a gift to their children--it would be invaluable to students in the arts and sciences.
